Martin Lewis warns 'you must check your driving licence or risk £1,000 DVLA fine'
Money Saving Expert founder Martin Lewis has warned drivers they must check their driving licence or risk a £1,000 fine. Martin, who regularly presents on ITV's This Morning, says it's vital that people check their licences as quickly as possible.
If people fail to do this, they could be hit with a £1,000 fine from the DVLA. Martin's advice comes as many people's licences are about to expire. He's urged drivers to do a 'yearly check up' to make sure everything is in order, as every licence expires after ten years. Martin says the 4b' date on the front of the card will let you know when it is time to renew.He explained: "The cards and products stored in your purse or wallet are a vivid window on your finances. So each year I like to do an annual check-up of what you’re holstering to see if there’s an easy cash boost.
Those who were issued paper licences before 1998 remain valid until the holder turns 70, however. If you need to renew your photo card, you can do so by post, at the post office, or via the UK Government's official website by clicking here, says Wales Online. To renew online, you need a valid UK passport, to be a resident of Great Britain, to pay £14 by MasterCard, Visa, Electron or Delta debit or credit card , addresses of where you’ve lived over the last three years, your current driving licence , your National Insurance number and to not be disqualified from driving.
