Martin Lewis would ‘absolutely welcome’ government plans to freeze energy bills at their current level. The Money Saving Expert founder says this intervention by the new PM would go ‘a decent way to mitigate further short-term damage’ to millions.
A £400 universal handout to be given to households this autumn is reported to also be factored in.
‘I have longly and strongly been calling for further government intervention,’ he wrote in what he called ‘my rough provisional analysis of what may be coming’. ‘Freezing the price cap at its current level certainly fulfils that brief, so I would absolutely welcome it.
