He issued a lengthy statement apologising for his 'error in judgement'

RTE sports presenter Marty Morrissey has apologised in relation to an "ad hoc" arrangement with Renault which saw him maintain the use of a car for a number of years. He described the arrangement as an "error" in judgement. This usage came from an arrangement that Interim Deputy Director General Adrian Lynch said had "not been approved".

He said he was asked to MC a number of events in 2017 at Renault garages, and had sought RTÉ permission at the time do to so, which was granted. “As was required of me, I sought RTÉ permission at the time to do this. This permission was granted. I did not seek a fee for this engagement. I saw it as GAA related, interacting with former players who I knew well."As I hadn’t sought a fee, Renault offered me the use of a car. I accepted the this offer. The situation carried over informally for a number of years. I ended up MCing about 12 such events.
