Singer Mary Black has said it is a 'great honour' to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards
The much-loved musician, who will also perform live at this year's awards event, joins previous winners Christy Moore , Steve Cooney , Moya Brennan and Andy Irvine .
Commenting on the Lifetime Achievement Award, Black said:"To be the recipient of this Lifetime Achievement Award is a great honour. It's hard to believe that its almost 40 years since my first solo album and I have so much to be grateful for since then. "I was blessed also to have the outstanding musicians who worked with me to bring these songs alive and of course to have the audiences who loyally supported me down through the years. Míle buíochas - I am indeed honoured and grateful beyond words".
Mary's back-catalogue of outstanding and best-selling albums, including Without the Fanfare , By the Time it Gets Dark , No Frontiers , Babes in the Wood , The Holy Ground , Circus , Shine and Speaking with the Angel represent such an important and influential body of work which have brought her acclaim and success all over the world, as a recording artist and a live performer.
