X-Factor star Mary Byrne shares her cherished Christmas traditions with her daughter Deborah and reflects on the joyful memories of her childhood Christmases in Dublin.
X-Factor legend Mary Byrne has opened up about what Christmas looks like for her nowadays, plus her memories around the festive period growing up in Dublin as a child. The star is currently performing in the Cinderella panto at Dublin ’s Liberty Hall Theatre until December 30th. Juggling her busy panto schedule, she will celebrate Christmas at home in Dublin ’s Ballyfermot with her daughter, Deborah.
They put up the Christmas tree together a couple of weeks beforehand and then they watch White Christmas together. That’s been their tradition since she was a kid. These days, because Mary is working, Deborah does all the Christmas shopping and the present buying, and then Mary does the wrapping with her. They’ll have three lovely days together, as Mary takes a break from the panto from Christmas Eve to St Stephen’s Day. Expressing her gratitude for her daughter, Mary said she is looking forward to spending the day with her. On Christmas day Mary will cook the turkey and Deborah will help with the stuffing and potatoes. They’ll spend all the time together in each other’s company. Mary feels so blessed to have Deborah in her life. Reflecting on her own Christmases growing up, the singing talent shared that even though things could be tough at times, they were “wonderful times.” Mary’s parents loved Christmas and they always had a brilliant one. The first memory Mary has of Christmas is when she was six years of age and they were living in Ballyfermot Crescent in the family home. She used to sleep between her mam and dad and she remembers waking up that Christmas morning, leaning over her daddy to look out and seeing a tin pram in the bedroom with transfers on them, little flowers and stuff, and this big, huge doll with grey hair
