Maura Higgins reportedly became "suspicious" of Pete Wicks after allegedly finding messages from other women on his phone. The Love Island star, 34, was reportedly heartbroken by the discovery and decided to end their whirlwind romance, reports the Mirror.
Maura seemed to be smitten with the Strictly Come Dancing star, 37, after they were seen on several secret dates last year. She even spoke highly of their bond while in the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! jungle, as their relationship appeared stronger than ever. Pete visited Ireland with Maura over Christmas and the pair enjoyed numerous romantic trips together. However, their love story came to an end on Valentine's Day. It is now suggested that the real reason behind Maura's split was her growing suspicion of Pete and whether he was "messing her around". The ex-couple reportedly had arguments over trust before deciding to separate. "She felt she was proved right when she saw loads of messages with other women on his phone," a source revealed. "She knew she'd never be able to feel like she could trust him - even if the messages were all innocent, it's not something she could get past. She didn't want to be constantly worried about what her man was doing," they added to the Sun. The source further explained that Maura has "remained coy" and is determined to move on from Pete without speaking ill of him. Maura Higgins shrugged off her Valentine's Day blues as she still made it out, dazzling in a red off-the-shoulder dress and sporting sleek straight hair. She was spotted holding hands with a male pal, all smiles as they arrived for a posh dinner in the capital. But when snappers quizzed her on Pete's whereabouts, Maura cheekily retorted: "Dunno, probably out cheating," as reported by the outlet. The telly favourite even sent herself a bouquet of red roses, with a note saying: 'To Me, Love Me.' Over the weekend, Maura sang her heart out to Whitney Houston's Where Do Broken Hearts Go during a theatre trip in London, giving a shoutout to her celeb hairdresser mate Carl Bembridge for a fab night, and also belted out the classic, I Will Always Love You. Maura and Pete, who have been mates for six years, have had a rocky few months of dating. They sparked romance rumours last year after being spotted smooching at a Soho eatery in August."There have been a few clashes, and it was eventually agreed they were better off as friends," the source said. "Those closest to them know it's been a very on and off relationship, which is why they were so resistant to go public in the first place. They remain close and share a deep connection." However, the friend hinted that the strong attraction between them means a reunion in the near future cannot be ruled out. When Maura appeared on Loose Women a few weeks ago, she was asked about her romance with Pete and replied: "Do we? I never really thought about it. He's got better hair than me to be fair! There's not really much to tell, I know that's very boring, we've known each other for what, six years? We spend time together, we get on very well, our personalities are very very similar and he's a great person but there's actually nothing to tell. There's really not though, no one believes me, there's not!" Pete also spoke highly of Maura in an interview with relationship expert Paul C Brunson on his show, Need To Talk. He shared: "We have the same sense of humour, she is super intelligent and I think you know that is sometimes something people don't realise about Maura. She is incredibly witty and we have always been there for each other for kind of the past six years at a distance where we have always been friends.
