Max Verstappen is on the verge of securing his third Formula 1 title at the Qatar Grand Prix and was the big favourite for pole position, though a tricky track surface opened the door for the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc
Max Verstappen blew away the competition once again to secure pole position for Sunday's Qatar Grand Prix.
In any case, Verstappen has put himself in prime position to make sure of his third F1 title. Sunday's race might not even be relevant in that regard, as he simply need a top-five finish in Saturday's sprint to make it mathematically certain. Zhou Guanyu and Kevin Magnussen booked their places on the back row of Sunday's grid. And Liam Lawson, in what may be his final F1 qualifying session for the time being, could only go 18th fastest.
