The Ballaghadereen man bid for the Mayo job two years ago only to lose out to Kevin McStay and his high profile ticket.

Solan will replace Dubliner Paddy Christie, who served two years in the role and stood down after this year’s Tailteann Cup. His name will be put to delegates at the next county board meeting for a three-year term having emerged as the choice of the selection committee put in place to find Christie’s successor.
