Michigan DT Mazi Smith pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge, resulting in the dismissal of a felony charge stemming from his Oct. 7 arrest.

Smith entered the plea at a probable cause hearing in Washtenaw County District Court. Judge J. Cedric Simpson advised Smith that the misdemeanor charge would carry a maximum penalty of one-year incarceration and a $1,000 fine and set his sentencing for Dec. 29.provided more detail on Smith’s arrest.
According to the report, Smith told the arresting officer that he was running late and was trying to put his Glock 19 handgun in the case at the time of the stop. Smith told the officer he’d just taken a class for his concealed pistol license and was carrying the gun because “people are starting to know me more and I don’t feel comfortable,” according to the report.
