Arsenal winger Katie McCabe and her Ireland teammates are preparing for Tuesday night’s Euro 2025 qualifier against Sarina Wiegman’s England.
Katie McCabe has acknowledged that Ireland are up against it when they take on reigning European champions England - but that won’t stop her dreaming of a historic win over the Lionesses. And it won’t get any easier when they take on Sarnia Wiegman’s side to the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday night, in front of an anticipated 30,000-plus crowd.
“That buzz that the fans create for us whether in Tallaght or at the Aviva is so special to us and we feel that when we step onto the pitch, we feel that we’ve got a stadium behind us and it’s going to be massively important for us tomorrow night. “We’re realistic, we know what we were up against, against France,” she said. “But in terms of our belief, we always believe we can go and beat anyone on our day.
This will be the eighth official meeting between the two sides, with England winning the previous seven. They have scored 29 times in those seven meetings, while Ireland’s only goal came in the first meeting in May 1978, in a 6-1 defeat at Exeter’s St James’s Park.
