Wrexham secured a victory over Stockport County, but the match was overshadowed by an alleged assault on player James McClean by a Stockport supporter.
James McClean shared a collection of images from Wrexham 's triumphant weekend victory against Stockport County . The game, however, was marred by an incident involving a Stockport supporter who allegedly threw a punch at the former Irish international as McClean headed towards the tunnel at the Racecourse Ground. Police and stewards swiftly intervened to de-escalate the situation. The fan responsible was subsequently escorted out of the stadium at halftime.
Despite the disturbance, McClean played a pivotal role in the match's only goal, which occurred midway through the first half. Wrexham was awarded a penalty when their captain's header struck the arm of Stockport defender Ibby Touray. Referee Simon Mather consulted with his assistant referee before pointing to the penalty spot. 36-year-old forward Jay Rodriguez stepped up to take the penalty. Though his initial 12-yard effort was saved by goalkeeper Corey Addai, the rebound fell favorably to Rodriguez, who confidently converted the second attempt. On Sunday, McClean posted a series of pictures from the game on his Instagram account, including celebratory moments with Rodriguez. One image, potentially in response to the incident with the Stockport supporter, depicted McClean making a kissing gesture towards the stands. Wrexham currently holds second place in League One and appears poised for yet another promotion, following consecutive promotions from the National League and League Two
