Green Party Cllr Eva Dowling polled 3,239 first preferences followed by geriatrician Rónán Collins on 2,604. Labour’s Sadhbh O’Neill is next on 1,085 followed by eighth place former minister Katherine Zappone on 950 votes.The quota is 4,450 from a total valid poll of 17,797. Just 24 votes were spoiled, once citing “1 person 1 vote” and a second stating “Shitehawk Central” where the voting numbers should have been.
The tally put candidates Linda O’Shea Farren and Marie Keenan on 3 per cent each, with Dara Kilmartin and Sandra Adams both on 2 per cent. Three candidates – Michael O’Doherty, Mairéad Kenny and Hilary Beirne were on 1 per cent each. Labour’s candidate is lecturer and scientist Sadhbh O’Neill while former Irish rugby international Hugo MacNeill is running for a third time, having unsuccessfully contested the 2020 election and the 2022 byelection to succeed Labour’s Ivana Bacik following her election to the Dáil. Aubrey McCarthy, entrepreneur and founder of the charity Tiglin, is also among the candidates.
