Ratoath won only their second ever Meath senior hurling championship after dramatic win over Trim on Sunday
Ratoath GAA club in Meath bridged an incredible 61-year gap on Sunday when they were crowned Meath senior hurling champions for the first time since 1963. The south Meath village defeated Trim in a thrilling contest by 2-15 to 1-16 at Pairc Tailteann in Navan, avenging defeats in 2020 and 2022 to the same opponents.
The celebrations afterwards were special and one legendary figure of the club was welcomed into the winners’ dressing room immediately afterwards. That 1963 triumph over Dunboyne was Ratoath’s first hurling success at senior level, winning by a remarkable scoreline of 9-3 to 6-11 at St Loman’s Park in Trim.
Locals lit bonfires on Sunday evening to welcome the team back to Ratoath and the celebrations went on long into the night.
