According to a new analysis by MyHome.ie, the median asking price for a property nationally now stands at €340,000

It is becoming increasingly difficult to buy a home in Ireland, a new study has shown, as asking prices nationwide are rising at their fastest pace in 18 months.

The report, which was conducted by MyHome.ie in association with Bank of Ireland, also found that in the first three months of 2024, on average, houses were being sold for 4.6 per cent over the asking price. This compares to just 1 per cent a year ago. However, homebuilding activity continues to pick up as there were 72 per cent more new builds compared to this time last year. Managing Director of MyHome.ie Joanne Geary said this figure is encouraging.

Chief Economist at Bank of Ireland, Conall MacCoille, said this new quarter report shows that the housing market is “heating up again”. The only counties that haven't seen an average increase in asking prices for three-bed semi-detached houses in the past year are Cavan, Kerry, Leitrim, Mayo, Meath, Tipperary and Wexford.
