Jake Wuersig, 16, of Medina, suffered a traumatic brain injury and is currently in a coma at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

“There was a gap between some elevated rock,” explained his father Bob Wuersig. “He jumped across and slipped he fell backward 20-30 feet. It was all rocks below and his head took the brunt of the fall”.

After his friends called 911, the 16-year-old was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center and was found to have suffered a traumatic brain injury, numerous facial and skull fractures, a broken wrist, damaged carotid artery, lacerated ear and various cuts and bruises. He has been in a medically-induced coma for almost a week, and his father told 19 News his brain continues to swell.two days.

“For folks to take their time and energy and effort to reach out to us and support us, it’s fabulous and I can’t say thank you enough,” said Bob. The family is staying hopeful and praying that the swelling of Jake’s brain will go down soon, but then it will be a matter of how long it will take for him to recover.
