Four new MLAs were selected to replace those elected to the House of Commons
Four new faces are set to appear on the blue benches at Stormont after they were selected to replace the outgoing members who were elected to the House of Commons following the UK General Election earlier this month.
“As a team, we will continue to advocate for positive change in Northern Ireland and its institutions. The people of Northern Ireland deserve to have a functioning government, and Alliance believes that reforming our institutions is the right way forward. No single party should have the power to bring down our Assembly and Executive.
Speaking after his selection, Mr Crawford said that he was "extremely humbled" to be taking up the post and paid tribute to Robin Swann. Mr Gaston, a fire, health and safety officer by trade, previously served as Deputy Mayor of Mid and East Antrim having served on the council since it's inception in 2014.
"I myself will start off in Stormont. Like Jim, I leave the council with mixed feelings. There is plenty of work still to be done in Mid and East Antrim and I won't shy away from that, even as I take up the new role. But, as I have done in the chamber in Ballymena, I will bring that enthusiasm to the Stormont benches.
