The thing that scares me most is losing someone I love again'
Melanie Verwoerd has had some big moments in her career, including meeting Nelson Mandela and being elected to the South African parliament but these days she’s most content with playing with her grandson at home. Here, she opens up about her childhood, the love of her life and feeling happier in herselfI was raised a Calvinist and was very religious when I was young. I even studied theology in the hope of becoming a minister in the Church.

It was some of the happiest days of my life.What is your earliest memory?Who was the greatest love of your life?Most probably meeting Mandela shortly after his release.
As I describe in my book, I’m now in a phase in my life where I am much happier in myself – it is the great thing about getting older, you care less what others think.What’s your no laughing matter moment?
