The Mercedes-AMG SL43 has been revealed with a 376bhp iteration of the A45's four-cylinder and a trick new electric turbo -
Powering the SL43 is the same AMG-developed M139 four-cylinder engine as found in the A45 andbut with a few key differences to both its layout and technology. First of which is the swap to an industry first electrically-driven turbocharger, which AMG says dramatically improves response times.
This essentially eliminates turbo lag at low rpm, boosts torque at low engine speeds and is even able to keep the turbocharger on boost when off-throttle. This differs from AMG’s other electrically-driven turbochargers, as fitted to cars like the, because the electric motor is directly integrated into the turbocharger, as opposed to compressing air externally through an electric supercharger.
