Today's mass stabbing in Southport has shocked Merseyside and the nation. From politicians to football clubs, many have expressed their horror and heartbreak following the terrifying incident which is unfolding in the Sefton town. Police arrived at a property on Hart Street at 11.50am to reports of a stabbing. Armed police have detained a man and seized a knife. He has been taken to a police station. Police have warned people to avoid the area while they deal with the incident.

Metro Mayor for the Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram also released a statement in the wake of the tragedy and urged people not to spread unconfirmed speculation or false information. He said:' Like you, I'm deeply concerned to hear about the incident in Southport this morning. I have been in contact with the police and am being kept updated on the situation.
