Mesa City Council seeks to purchase the Grand Hotel. They directed staff to move forward with plans to buy it with ARPA funds for temporary housing.

Mesa leaders have directed staff to begin negotiating a purchase price to convert a hotel into housing for people experiencing homelessness.

“This is, long-term, the most effective and most affordable solution for the city,” Mayor John Giles said at the Dec. 1 council meeting. Earlier in the year the city considered purchasing a hotel near the Superstition Springs Mall on Power Road and Southern Avenue, but the sale fell through. Community Bridges Inc., a non-profit organization, manages the current site for the city and offers resources to help people find permanent housing. The program has served over 1,000 people with nearly 80% positive exits, according the city documents.” city documents state.
