Eoin Sherlock, head of forecasting at Met Eireann, said that the national forecaster was cognisant of how many yellow weather warnings are being issued.
Met Éireann is planning to reduce the number of yellow weather warnings this winter amid fears that “warning fatigue” is setting in.
“We have looked at them. For the yellow warnings, we’re going to change the threshold for the wind speed to be a bit higher.“It's important to note that there's the public warnings that go out. If you’re a painter decorator, a yellow warning means you might not be able to do your work that day so it's important for him. For the rest of the population, it is a soft day,
“Going forward, it's up to the public to take this information. For example, if we have a storm name, that is serious weather. It follows a stark increase in the number of lives lost on Irish roads so far this year. To date, there have been 152 deaths on the road, up 35 on the same period last year.
