The cold snap kicks in this evening
Met Eireann has warned that temperatures could drop to as low as -5 degrees in the coming days in it's latest weather update.
A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Hazy sunny spells with well scattered showers to start today, with outbreaks of rain moving into the north, slowly moving southwards. Turning colder and clearer behind the rain with highest afternoon temperatures in the north of just 4 or 5 degrees. At 6pm this evening, a Status Yellow Ice warning comes into affect for the whole country and is valid until 10am tomorrow morning.
Discussing when conditions will turn freezing overnight, Met.ie's forecast continues: "Long clear spells will develop as the last of the rain clears southern counties early tonight. Very cold with lowest temperatures of 0 and -4 degrees leading to widespread sharp frost and possible icy stretches.Tuesday will be a very cold day and some parts of the country are expected to see snowfall.
