Many areas of the country are set to be battered with rain and wind later today as the national broadcaster has issued a double weather warning - be aware of potential dangers

You might want to put any potential plans for the weekend on hold as the weather has taken a grim turn.A Status Yellow rain warning is set to come into effect from 2pm today for Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wexford, Munster and Galway, which will expire at 3am Saturday morning.

A Status Yellow rain warning will come into effect at 5pm for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Longford, Louth, Meath, Westmeath, Wicklow, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo - this will continue until 6am Saturday. A Status Yellow wind warning will come into effect in Leinster and Munster from 9pm this evening until 6am Saturday morning.

Wet and very windy overnight with heavy rain and some thundery downpours. Extremely windy or stormy conditions may develop for a time overnight in southern and eastern coastal areas with severe gusts possible. Spot flooding is likely with difficult travelling conditions. Drier and clearer conditions will develop in southern areas later in the night.
