Most of the country will be under a Status Red wind warning on Friday as Storm Eowyn is predicted to bring 'powerful and destructive winds' of up to 193kmh over the coming days

The Status Red weather warning issued by Met Éireann earlier today has been extended nationwide to all 26 counties as Ireland is set to be battered by 'an historic storm' later this week.

Met Eireann has now updated its red weather warning, with every county in Ireland set to come under the red weather alert on Friday. A Status Red - Wind warning has also been issued for Donegal, which will run from 6am Friday morning until 3pm that afternoon. Met Eireann say that the county should expect severe, damaging and extremely destructive gusts in excess of 130km/h.

"That high resolution AROME model out to 9am shows gusts I’ve never seen this model show before for Ireland and this model is one of the best there is for Ireland<' said Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather in a post on X. "Anyone saying this is just another storm is in for a rude awakening. This will be an historic storm."
