She also conceded that the force’s “threshold and tolerance” for protests during the coronation “might have been lower” if it had not been such a significant event.

Ms Rolfe said: “We were very clear in policing the operation that we must consider balancing people’s human rights with the heightened security context that are facing the numbers of public attending this occasion. “And, therefore, our threshold and tolerance for disruption might have been lower than if we were dealing with other events.”to its “night stars” volunteers who had been arrested in the early hours of Saturday 6 May over their possession of rape alarms.

The Met did not immediately issue a public apology even though the three volunteers were released without further action.“disappointed” the Met had still not issued a public apologyIn response to questions about the arrest of the night safety volunteers, the force claimed it had “received intelligence” suggesting people would seek to disrupt the coronation proceedings “using rape alarms”.

The volunteers, who support at-risk women and help vulnerable members of the public to ensure they get home safely and wear pink high-vis vests that feature the Met logo, walk with the rape alarms to hand out to the people they help.
