The public was supportive of the operation
Metal detectors have been set up by police by Nottingham train station to check for weapons coming into the city centre. During an operation by Nottinghamshire Police, they were temporarily used on Station Street near one of the entrances to the train station and on Lister Gate near where the Broad Marsh shopping centre used to be.
Throughout the course of a morning, hundreds of people passed through the detectors, and police say they were well received by members of the public. According to a Facebook post from Nottingham city centre police, many said they found it reassuring to see officers in uniform as a visible presence and thought the metal detectors were a good deterrent for anyone attempting to bring weapons into Nottingham.
During the course of the day, the city centre-based Operation Reacher and Operation Compass teams conducted further foot patrols of Nottingham where they located and arrested two people wanted for court-related matters and conducted a number of stop and searches resulting in drugs being seized.
