The unnamed officer has been suspended after demands from the family of Mr Kaba, the Met confirmed
The officer had previously been removed from operational duties “due to the formal post-incident process” as the Met said a senior officer would “carefully consider their work status going forward”.
But Mr Kaba’s family had called on the Met to “immediately suspend the firearms officer, pending the outcome of the investigation”.were among those to speak at a vigil on Saturday. Ms Ribeiro-Addy cited “increasing tensions” between the police and the black community, adding: “We need that communication if they want our trust. The way this has been handled so far has been an absolute disgrace… all the family want is to know what happened to their son.”
Ms Abbott added: “What I want to ask is, when is the Metropolitan Police going to stop killing black men? Nobody should have to suffer as this family is suffering… we have to continue to fight for justice for this family, and all the other families who have suffered like this. “How would you feel if it was your son, if it was your brother, if it was your father, who had been killed like Chris Kaba? We have to continue to fight for justice.”
