A planned protest and occupation of a Donegal County Council public services building has been called off because the organisers say the building was closed by the council

The protest was calling for emergency action in relation to mica-affected homes and was organised by Paddy Diver of the 100% Redress campaign for homeowners. It had been planned to protest at the public services building in Carndonagh from noon and to occupy it overnight until a number of demands - including the urgent rehousing of 10 families living in the worst affected houses - were met.

He added that the building was closed to the public and he did not expect people to stand outside in the freezing cold, but, he said, the protesters will be back again tomorrow. A delegation from Donegal County Council met the minister yesterday to discuss a range of issues relating to the issue, including temporary modular housing and an emergency fund to deal with a number of urgent cases.

The council said that the minister indicated he was anxious to find a solution to this issue and it"was agreed there would be further clarification very soon"."The delegation highlighted the particular urgency of the families requiring emergency assistance, and the Minister indicated that there would be further engagement very shortly in this regard."
