Liverpool are set to welcome back former sporting director Michael Edwards in a move that could see in-demand supremo Richard Hughes join him at Anfield but the news comes as a setback for Manchester United and Sir Dave Brailsford.
Sporting directors and football operations chiefs are becoming the latest targets for clubs, in a new wave of speculation surrounding football. Omar Berrada arrived from United's rivals Man City and is currently on gardening leave, meanwhile there is a new fight on the hands of Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe as they battle Newcastle for Dan Ashworth.
This week, The Athletic reported that Edwards is close to taking on a big role with Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group. If he says yes, it's expected that Hughes, who recently left AFC Bournemouth, will become the new sporting director.
