Michael Flatley on being inspired by his beloved father, the importance of their family name and his latest whiskey venture - and he opens up about what his son is up to and how they are similar in life
Michael Flatley’s father was his hero growing up. The world-famous dancer and businessman grew up in Chicago and his Irish roots were instilled in him from an early age. Like so many Irish, Michael’s father, also named Michael, left Ireland for America in 1947, but his love for the home country never left him.
Throughout his 65 years, the former Riverdance and Lord Of The Dance star has had many passions in his life including his family and career, but his newest venture, Flatley Irish Whiskey, is a little different. It’s special and unique to him because it has allowed him to pay tribute to his beloved father. The Flatley family crest adorns each bottle as a nod to his dad.
The Flatley name has been carried on throughout the generations, and Michael is keen to keep that going for years to come. His father’s deep influence on his early life is also clear from Michael’s long-standing passion for Irish music and dance. “He’s very bright,” he continues. “I’ve every faith in the younger generation and in my opinion every generation gets smarter.
