The family of the legendary interviewer confirmed that he had died on August 16 following a brief illness at the age of 88
Chat show host Michael Parkinson developed a special friendship with Belfast football star George Best over the years.
In the interview the pair spoke about George's battle with alcohol and how it affected the pair's friendship towards the end as well. "Michael my son writes a wonderful piece in the book about playing football with him. The name of the game was get the ball off George Best and nobody achieved it." Michael said George was a great interviewee, describing him as "bright and funny and intelligent", but his issues with alcohol meant their relationship drifted towards the end.
