In a social media post, Fianna Fáil candidate for Longford-Westmeath, Dympna Cunniffe, asked if parents wanted their children to go to school besides asylum seeker accommodation
Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has said he disagrees with comments made by one of his election candidates about immigration.
In a now-deleted TikTok video, which the Irish Mirror has a copy of, she said she had spoken to a “concerned father and local business owner” who was “appalled over the approval of 150 tents” in Athlone which will accommodate 1,000 single males. A caption on the video, attributed to Ms Cunniffe's account, read: “Would you want your children walking to school adjacent to the comings and goings of 1,000 asylum seekers awaiting background checks from countries dubbed ‘high risk’ as per government documents.”
