The Tanaiste tells Irish Mirror readers why he thinks Budget 2024 was 'progressive and fair'

As former President Barack Obama once said, “A Budget is more than just a series of numbers on a page, it is an embodiment of our values”.

The Budget includes tax cuts that will put hundreds of euros back in the pockets of low to middle earners. USC falls to 4% and the threshold for 40pc tax is increased to €42,000. We all know that energy costs have gone up since the war on Ukraine, so we are repeating the energy supports by another one-off payments of €150, one before Christmas, one after Christmas and one in Spring.

Budget 2024 gives a once-off €400 payment of the Carer’s Support Grant, Disability Allowance, Blind Pension, Invalidity Pension and Domiciliary Care Allowance. 350,000 people will benefit.
