Micheal Martin defends government over Phil Hogan resignation as Varadkar labels controversy 'regrettable'
Tánaiste Micheál Martin has defended the Government’s role in the resignation of former EU Commissioner Phil Hogan in the aftermath of the Golf Gate scandal.Mr Hogan launched a blistering attack on the coalition, saying that Mr Martin and now-Taoiseach Leo Varadkar “went on a campaign” and a “populist wave of indignation” to get rid of him. He made the comments during an interview with Sean O’Rourke for the RTÉ documentary Two Tribes.
He said: “The context of the time was very clear. I can recall at the time we had just put new restrictions back on Kildare and two other counties.
