Ireland lost to Italy in the World Cup in 1990, when Toto Schillaci scored the winner.
Former Ireland captain and manager Mick McCarthy admitted that he wasn’t too familiar with Toto Schillaci before the pair faced off at Italia ‘90.

McCarthy was speaking ahead of Ireland’s famous Euro 2016 win over Italy when he recalled how Schillaci introduced himself before kick-off.“I had a few run-ins with Toto Schillaci during the match. He had just exploded onto the scene at the World Cup, so it wasn’t as if I had a huge knowledge of him,” McCarthy said.
