They had been debating extending it

Minister for Housing Darragh O'Brien has officially confirmed that the eviction ban will come to an end at the end of the month.

The minister said Government was concerned that an extension of the ban would damage the supply of homes in the long term if more landlords left the rental market.Speaking to the press he said that the Attorney General's advice noted the "significant risk" of a legal challenge if the ban was extended.

Green Party TD for Dublin Central Neasa Hourigan said the decision is completely "wrong and thoughtless" and that people will lose their homes over the coming weeks. There have reportedly been discussions about making the rent-a-room tax relief applicable to all small landlords.
