There could be even bigger measures on the way
Back in September 2022, the Government announced a range of measures aimed at helping households amid the rising cost of living.However, Finance Minister Michael McGrath today hinted that new cost of living measures could be on the way in the next budget.As the cost of living continues to increase, the Fianna Fail Minister revealed that the Government plan to put more cash back in people’s pockets in the next budget.
“There will of course be a tax package and there will be a social welfare package but what I am saying in relation to these receipts is that there is an acute need to be careful because if we get it wrong it will come at a high cost to people down the line and I’m not going to be the Minister that signs up to that.”
Pressed on whether there will be new cost of living measures to help households deal with inflation in the next budget, the Minister said: “I think when people look in good faith at what we’ve done so far – the exceptional measures we have introduced with €12bn in the past 15 months to help people with the cost of living, I think people will see that there is a commitment there on the part of Government to assisting.
