Some changes are expected when the Minister of State positions are approved by Cabinet this morning.

The moves follow the rotation of the Office of Taoiseach between Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael at the weekend.Today some roles will change in line with the fairly modest realignment of Cabinet positions on Saturday.

However, it is anticipated that a number of Fine Gael TDs could be promoted. They include Jennifer Carroll MacNeill and Brendan Griffin. Already Minister Frank Feighan said he will not seek to stay in his role, and others in the political spotlight include Colm Brophy. Responsibility for the Gaeltacht is likely to be handed to Government Chief Whip Hildegarde Naughton, while a Fianna Fáil minister is expected to hold the Sport portfolio.

Today's Cabinet deliberations on this issue will take place with all mobile devices left outside the room. Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has asked ministers to follow this rule for security reasons.
