It is the first ever same-sex marriage of a minister in Government and is the first marriage in office since current Justice Minister Helen McEntee tied the knot in 2017

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has led congratulations to his Government colleague Roderic O’Gorman on his marriage last week.

Another friend of Mr O’Gorman told the Mirror the happy nuptials were “not a political affair in any way,” and that as far as he could see there were no other politicians present. Mr Varadkar said: “Congratulations to Roderic and Ray on their wedding. I am delighted for them both and hope they had a great day of celebration with family and friends.Mr O’Gorman has a massive workload in his ministerial role with the fairly unwieldy title of Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.

His partner, Dr Foley, is not directly involved in politics or public life and works in the area of nursing in Dublin. He is an academic doctor with a Doctorate in ‘understanding nursing care.’The couple got engaged in September 2021 before getting married in the middle of the Dail’s summer recess the weekend before last.
