Ministers have expressed their frustration the the Covid-19 timeline 'keeps moving' and are set to push for the easing of restrictions soon despite NPHET advice
Senior Government sources are frustrated that the finish line “keeps moving” as Ministers are expected to push for the relaxation of Covid measures soon - despite NPHET looking for more time.
However, a senior Government source said “the finish line keeps moving” and the finish line “always seems to be ‘a few weeks’ away.” Coalition leaders will aim to tease out with Dr Holohan what sector of society can reopen in the interim as it is not clear from the NPHET letter what they are advising can be opened before the vaccine target is met.
The Government will take a “different approach, an advisory and risk management” approach, the source added. The latest NPHET advice did not come as a surprise to another source who said Dr Holohan had “well flagged” in his recent NPHET briefing to the media on Tuesday what he believed would be a sufficient timeline to begin to lift restrictions.
Young people have been receiving the Pfizer vaccine which takes one week after the second dose to be deemed fully vaccinated.
