Motorists were faced with queue after queue this afternoon

Motorists driving on the M6 this afternoon were faced with miles of congestion following two accidents.

One of three lanes was closed for less than an hour from J32 on the M55 to J33 near Lancaster. Despite the temporary closure, the residual traffic blocked up most of the southbound route. Delays which began at 40 minutes were increased up to an an hour and 15 minutes moments before the usual rush hour. As commuter traffic started to join onto the motorway, traffic was reported to be easing.
