The body of Derek Sink, 39, was found around four hours after the opening of a Planet Fitness gym in Indianapolis, with gymgoers reporting smelling a foul odour before the grim discovery

A man reported missing was found dead in a tanning bed three days after he was last seen walking into a gym.

A customer of the gym who visited on Monday recalled a foul odour that could be smelled through the facility before the body was discovered. Elizabeth Len said: “The tanning bed has a door, I believe, but still, why are we not concerned that the tanning bed has been closed for three days, potentially?”

Speaking to the local station, the victim's family revealed that he had suffered with addiction issues, with a needle being found in the room at Planet Fitness.

"We were deeply saddened by the passing of one of our members, and the franchise owner is working with the local authorities in their investigation," a Planet Fitness spokesperson said in a statement.
