Many pubs, restaurants and bars are breathing small sigh of relief this lunchtime after Rishi Sunak unveiled a much-requested support package for businesses whose trading has been hit by soaring Covid cases amid the spread of the Omicron variant. The £1bn funding package is mostly aimed at the hospitality and leisure sector, where businesses have seen trade dry up in recent days as warnings over social mixing have seen customers cancel bookings and stay at home.
