Customers have mixed opinions about Toby Carvery in Nottinghamshire, with some praising the food and service while others complain about dirty surroundings and rude staff.
Who doesn't love a carvery? I certainly do. It's even better if you don't have to wait until Sunday for a roast dinner but there's not many pubs or restaurants serving up Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes every day of the week in Nottinghamshire.
"Worst experience ever. Never coming here again," said one. Another dissatisfied punter remarked: "They were not busy. How bad would it have been on a Sunday lunchtime? I really cannot recommend this place at all which is a shame because we used to love Toby Carvery. But this one's best avoided." It's not too long before she takes my drinks order and I head to the carvery. I'm sure the menu is more extensive than on my last visit. I don't remember seeing Yorkshire wraps. Another option is the ultimate roast dinner sandwich - turkey, beef, gammon, pork, stuffing, roast potatoes and mac & cheese in a brioche bun, topped with a Yorkshire pudding and a pig in blanket. It's sounds the ideal roast for vegetable haters.
Signs inform customers that there's slow roasted beef, tender roast gammon and glazed roast turkey. Unfortunately Toby couldn't think up an appetising description of the pork, labelling it simply 'hard carved'. Returning to my table, a glass of Diet Coke with ice and a slice of lemon is ready and waiting for me. So does the food make the grade? The turkey is succulent but the thinly sliced beef is too well done for my liking and slightly fatty.
