Mo Salah finished outside the top ten in the Ballon d'Or for the first time in his Liverpool career as the Egyptian's wait for the award goes on despite his belief that he is the world's best
Mohamed Salah endured his worst Ballon d'Or ranking for five years after finishing 11th in this year's renewal.
Salah has always finished in the top ten since moving to Liverpool, but that run came to an end this year. He was the highest-ranked Reds star, but was outdone by numerous Manchester City players after their treble success, despite previously stating he was the "best in the world". "At the end of the day it’s people’s opinions, but in my mind, I’m the best player in the world, that’s what I say to myself," the forward previously told Egyptian broadcaster MBC Masr TV. "I can’t say that I don’t want to win the Ballon d’Or or FIFA’s The Best, of course, I want to win either of them.
It was during the 2021/22 season that Salah, in the eyes of many, peaked. Liverpool were on course for the quadruple, eventually winning both domestic cups but falling short in the Premier League and Champions League. Salah was in free-scoring form early in the campaign, which saw Jurgen Klopp hail him as the world's best.
