“I said to myself, ‘This is me out of this life. God, I’m sorry for all me sins, please forgive me,” the mobster reveals in a bombshell new book, serialised in today’s Irish Mirror.
Veteran criminal John Gilligan today describes how he prayed to God for forgiveness when a gunman blasted six bullets into him in a gangland ambush.
He was targeted for assassination three months earlier – but the gang got the wrong pub. However, they tracked him down to his brother Thomas’ house on March 1 – and pumped six bullets into him. He almost died and spent weeks in hospital before fleeing to England and then Spain, where he lives today.
Sources have long said that gardai believe the murder bid was carried out by a notorious Dublin gangster for the cartel led by Daniel Kinahan – but Gilligan denies that in the book. ‘I’m after been shot in the leg.’ He shot me again in the kitchen. And then they started shooting into my back. They shot me in the head. I didn’t feel any hurt with the bullets. A lot of people think when somebody shoots you, you go ‘Uhhh!’ When a bullet goes into you it’s so warm that you don’t feel anything. You only feel it when the bullet cools down.Q.
