Here is a team-by-team preview of the Class 6A baseball teams in Montgomery County. All teams will participate in District 13-6A.The Woodlands head coach Ron Eastman enters his 23rd season at the helm for the Highlanders this spring.
The Woodlands returns senior Brayden Sharp, a big piece to the puzzle with ability on the mound, at the plate, in the outfield, and on the base paths.Sharp was 6-2 on the mound in 51 innings with a 0.69 ERA, 97 strikeouts, and just 14 hits allowed. At the plate, he slashed .352/.453/.602 with three homers, 16 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He also stole seven bases.
The future Cougar batted .418 with 21 extra-base hits and a homer last year. He caught 12 runners stealing from behind the plate and picked another off. Bennett also pitched and was an All-State selection.Dillon Staples returns in the outfield for his senior season. London, senior Justin Bryant , and senior Nathan Bushey also return.
Making the third round has been the standard so far as the Grizzlies reached the regional semifinals in 2021.Returning is senior pitcher Hudson Hamilton, a University of Texas signee. The big righty struck out 93 in 66 ⅓ innings last year and had a 6-3 record with a 1.58 ERA. When not pitching, Hamilton plays at the corner infield spots and had 13 RBIs last year.
The Willis Wildkats had a memorable run near the end of the 2022 season that saw it win the final playoff spot of out District 13-6A on the last day of the season. Willis followed that up with a 4-2 grinder of a game over MacArthur for its first bi-district title in six years before bowing out to Tomball in the area round.
