A man was transported to the hospital early Thursday in serious condition after two deputies shot him multiple times outside his Magnolia home.
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies shot a man early Thursday near Magnolia after he called dispatchers to report someone outside the home with a gun who fit his own description, officials said.
The man was hospitalized in serious condition, said Steve Squier, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office. Dispatchers around 12:45 a.m. got a call from a man who told them someone was outside his home in the 31700 block of Oak Crossing Drive with a gun and there was possibly a second person alongside him, Squier said. Deputies arrived to find a man in his 60s matching the description given by the caller, Squier said. The man had a gun, possibly a shotgun, and was acting erratically, Squier said. Deputies asked the man to put down the gun, but he refused and kept pointing it at them, he said. At some point, two deputies fired at him multiple times.Investigators said the man was likely experiencing a mental health crisis, Squier said. Deputies haven’t found signs of an actual trespasser.
The man lived at the home with several other family members, none of whom knew he called 911 or what was unfolding outside leading up to the shooting, Squier said.
