No special equipment is needed to catch the rare event
Stargazers and space enthusiasts are in for a treat tomorrow morning when the Moon will sit right beside the planet Venus in a stunning celestial display.
If you keep watching as the sky brightens you should still be able to see the Moon getting closer and closer to Venus until it passes in front of Venus around 9:30am. Venus will emerge from behind the Moon around 10:30am in what is known as an occultation event.Anyone who even casually glances at the sky during this time in any part of Ireland should be able to see the display, depending on weather conditions, with no special equipment needed.
"Venus is by far the brightest planet in the sky and is about 100 times brighter than the brightest star in the sky so it is absolutely unmistakable every morning this month while it is at its best," David explained. "We want the whole country to watch from 7am to sunrise and then 9:30am and 10:30am when Venus goes behind the Moon.
