An increase in the income disregard for Carer's Allowance will see more people eligible for the monthly social welfare payment starting in 2025. The payment amount has also been increased.
More people will be eligible for a monthly payment of up to €1,700 starting in 2025. The Carer's Allowance income disregard will increase to €625 for a single person and €1,250 for a couple from July 2025. This means individuals can earn more before being disqualified from receiving the social welfare benefit. The payment has also been raised by €12 from January 1, 2023, with proportional increases for qualified adults and those on reduced rates.
Carer's Allowance is a weekly social welfare payment for individuals who care for someone due to: To qualify, income must be below a certain amount. Caring for 2 or more people increases the Carer's Allowance rate by 50% (maximum) weekly. Receiving another social welfare payment may result in half-rate Carer's Allowance. Criteria include providing full-time care for someone who is: Full-time care means caring for someone for at least 35 hours per week.
